Name:
Elijah Snow
Superhero Identity:
The Fourth Man
Ghost of the 20th Century
Age:
109
Sex:
Male
Relatives, include deceased:
Uncle Caleb- deceased
Further family unknown- presumably all deceased
Picture or sig:
Personality:
To say Elijah Snow is the easiest of people to get along with is a lie. Indeed, he can easily be written or brushed off as a cantankerous old man whose brilliance is overshadowed only by his utter impatience with people. If one was told that he was the one who had taken it upon himself to discover the secrets of the world and use it to better mankind, a laugh would not be an uncommon response. After all, from the image he often presents Elijah seems to dislike people, if not outright have a grudge against all humanity himself.
And yet there he is, eager to throw away it all for the sake of uncovering and solving mysteries, whose single aim in life is to help people. The role of bitter old man is simply something of an act- a rather poor act, actually. In some instances he can pull it off quite well, but often Elijah's protective and inquisitive side gets the better of him. He really is a good man, but recent events have embittered him and made him more prone to violent and brutally cruel reactions. Still, though, one thing has not changed, and will probably never change- his absolute love for the strange and mysterious. Its a strange world out there. He plans to keep it that way.
Powers:
Heat Subtraction- in essence, ice powers. Elijah has the power to subtract heat from his surroundings and freeze them, affecting both organic and non-organic matter.
Quasi-immortality- Around 1925, Elijah Snow stopped aging. From what evidence is presentable, Elijah Snow is effectively immortal, unless he dies a violent death. Age and disease have no effect whatsoever on him.
Weakness:
Not Bulletproof- Weapons and violence affect him as it does any other human. Sure, Elijah may possibly be more durable than the average Joe, but not superhuman-ly so.
Obsessive- once the man gets his mind set on something, he will do it, no matter the cost. He has been known to throw everything out the window in pursuit of his goals- even to the point where his closest friends and associates questioned his sanity.
Curious- If there is one thing Elijah can NOT resist, its mysteries and secrets and how to unravel them. Good thing he's as smart as he is, otherwise curiosity would have killed him long ago.
Weapons or Gadgets:
Through the planetary Organization, Elijah has a vast array of weapons and gadgets at his disposal. However, he rarely uses them himself.
Miscellaneous information:
Elijah Snow is from the Wildstorm universe, also known as Earth-50.
History:
Born at the stroke of midnight of January 1, 1900, Elijah was one of a few select people born at the strike of the 20th century- a select few people granted with extraordinary abilities and talents. Century babies, these people were called. Where exactly Elijah was born is impossible to pinpoint, but from what few snatches he reveals of his history indicate he was born somewhere in rural America, most likely in the southern states. His surroundings were poor and his education was most likely severely lacking. To state that he came from a bunch of backwater hicks does not seem to be a fact that falls too far from the truth.
From as far as he could recall, Elijah was driven to uncover and solve mysteries. It didn't matter how big or how small it was- if it was a question, he would seek out an answer. What would happen if he licked a fire hydrant in winter? What ill effects would befall him if he drank Uncle Caleb's homemade liquor? yes, that liquor- the one he made int he bathtub that he used to scrape his foot sores in. probably the dumbest thing he's ever done, that. But you get the picture. He had a habit of keeping everything he uncovered carefully recorded in journals. By the age of fifteen Elijah knew that he had no resistance against uncovering and solving mysteries and conspiracies.
Thus began the string of adventures that would become his life. By the time he was nineteen, he was already traveling around the world in search of various myths and legends. In the castle of Victor Frankenstein, Snow found a map of the world - a map of the world's secrets, made by a conspiracy of powerful men.
Snow traced the map to England, and to the leader of the conspiracy, Sherlock Holmes. Holmes and his cohorts - the Baron, an invisible man, Dracula and others - considered themselves to be an intellectual elite, holding back from the world those ideas and discoveries for which the world was not ready. Snow decided to change all that.
He killed Dracula in a surprisingly anticlimactic scuffle, and then became Holmes' student. He demanded to know everything that Holmes and his conspiracy knew, so that he could use it to change the world for the better. Snow studied with Holmes until the detective's death in 1925. It was then that Elijah Snow began his search for the strange in earnest, and began writing a guide to chronicle his findings.
Every year like clockwork the Planetary Guide became available, chronicling the wondrous adventures and secrets Elijah had uncovered in his adventuring across the globe. Eventually this became too much for one man to assimilate and release in order to aid mankind, and so he founded the Planetary Organization- a global organization dedicated to achieve his goal in aiding mankind utilizing all that he uncovered. Amongst his organization,h e created a three-man field team, comprised of himself and other super powered individuals- a man by the name of Ambrose Chase who could alter physics, Jakita Wagner, who had both super strength and enhanced speed and, and a rescued kid who simply went by The Drummer, a technopath.
Things went very well- too well, actually. Elijah and his group's efforts brought him in conflict with a mysterious group known as The Four Voyagers (or more simply, The Four). They too sought the hidden mysteries and wonders of the world, but aimed to stockpile and hide it, away from the grasp of humanity. The two groups clashed on several occasions during the 1990s, but eventually Elijah Snow was captured and offered an ultimatum: either have his memory blocked so that he would fade out of the picture, or The Four would kill the rest of the Planetary organization. Snow agreed to the memory blocks, warning his team never to look for him again.
His orders were not to be faithfully followed. Jakita led the team with limited success, but when Ambrose fell in the field of battle, she decided it was time to drag Elijah back into the picture. "Recruiting" him into the organization, Elijah soon found himself back in the process of uncovering the strange and hidden things of the world. Slowly, too, his memory blocks were picked away at. They eventually fell, and he had two goals in mind once his memory had been restored: rescue Ambrose Chase, and kill The Four.
With remarkable efficiency and increasing brutality, he did just that. The Four were handily dealt with, being picked off one by one. With them out of the picture, Elijah and the rest of Planetary were able to continue just what it was they set out to do...

Interesting.
It was one of those rare moments in which Elijah was NOT being driven half-mad by the seemingly ceaseless bombardment of reports, calls, and requests for... everything. Ever since Dowling and The Four had been taken down, Planetary had been working nonstop around the clock for the better part of two years. So much had been uncovered! Elijah idly wondered if he'd managed to get a full night of sleep since their database had been uncovered. The work seemed to be ceaseless. Fascinating, but endless and oftentimes frustrating.
And then there were reports like the one Elijah was holding in his hand and reviewing now. These sorts of things made all the stress and frustration worth it. The basis of the thing wasn't all that unusual in itself- Snow was familiar with The Bleed and how it existed between all the parallel universes and alternate realities and the like. He knew that there were thousands of other worlds out there; worlds both similar and vastly different from his own. Hell, he'd been on more than one madcap adventure that crossed The Bleed and onto a world (or worlds) beyond. He even had a ship for that sort of thing now.
But this... This alternate Earth. Dowling had apparently been keeping tabs on various alternate versions of Earth... many of them had their own list of strange and bizarre events. But this one honestly took the cake. The list of the bizarre and unusual was extensive, and full of the odd sort of things that piqued Snow's curiosity. A league of heroes with powers beyond the scope of anything he had ever seen? Intergalactic police forces? ALTERING REALITY by punching it? It was almost as exciting as when he had discovered the map of the conspiracy back in 1919.
Of all the worlds out there, why did this one display such an impossibly high reading of unusual activity? Setting the report down, the pale man leaned back in his chair, dark gaze faraway in thought. Why indeed. Perhaps an investigation was in order. At the very least it would give him an excuse to get out of the office and back doing actual field work again... Yes indeed...
