Name: Helena Rosa Bertinelli
Superhero Identity: Huntress
Age: 24
Sex: Female
Relatives, include deceased: Guido Bertinelli, father (deceased), Maria Bertinelli, mother (deceased), Anthony Bertinelli, brother (deceased)

Personality:
As a teacher, Helena demonstrates an uncanny ability to place the needs of others ahead of her own; letting her student's achievements, their successes be the payment she values above all else. She is there for them when ever they have a need to just talk with someone, to vent as it were, and she sees nothing wrong with spending the extra hours at work, whether these be early in the morning or after school to take care of her students.
As the Huntress, Helena is a driven woman. She is both headstrong and forthright; following what her instincts tell her, whether her fellow vigilantes approve or not. In a fight, she will come out strong and is not afraid to use deadly force when necessary. Helena also has a slight tendency to look for a fight rather than just perform surveillance when she is on a patrol. In short, her flight/fight switch has been locked into fight mode, as she sees an enemy around every corner.
Helena takes an eye for an eye approach to fighting crime, meeting out her own form or justice with a harsh edge. She also believes in the discipline of merta, which is to hunt and claim her own form of retribution during a fight, willing to shed blood for blood, which is the Sicilian way to seek vengeance. In addition, she tends to rely on no one but herself, yet she tries to seek approval for her actions.
It's these characteristics that put her at odds more often than not with the Batman. She has a strong set of personal morals and an even stronger sense of honor; and these two aspects of her personality drive her to go out every night and protect Gotham in the way she feels only she can. In short, she may be a conservative, caring teacher by day, but at night, she sheds that persona to become Gotham's urban avenger.
Powers:
The Huntress is an excellent gymnast as well as a master in hand-to-hand combat. She is also skilled in a number of martial arts techniques. She has had training under the watchful tutelage of the martial arts master, Richard Dragon, and she has since learned to wield a collapsible, Titanium-steel staff, which she uses as her primary weapon for close combat.
She is a master of disguise and an excellent marksman with whatever weapon she may get her hands on. Her weapons include a variety of razor-edged throwing knives and darts. She also has been known to carry a collapsible cross-bow, which can be carried in a close-to-the-body holster attached to the top of her left boot.
At times, she can adapt her current costume to employ a specially designed wrist-launcher attached to her right arm that fires small, but deadly, CO2-propelled bolts. In addition, the Huntress has been known to carry the usual assorted Bat-related weapons, including a grappling gun, bat-cord, gas mask, and bat-cuffs.
Weakness:
The Huntress is mortal and female, and as such, is governed by all the laws of nature for this planet. She also seems to have a hunger for companionship and has been known to seek out other male vigilantes to satisfy this hunger. Nightwing, Arsenal, and a parking attendant are just three of her more recent conquests.
Weapons or Gadgets:
Collapsible Titanium Steel Staff: Her weapon of choice in close combat, the collapsible staff is housed in a special holster that is attached to her outer left thigh when not in use. However, when deployed, the staff is nearly eight feet in length, though it can be extended or shortened to any other length within that range.
Collapsible Crossbow: The weapon of choice for longer distances, her crossbow is housed in a holster against her outer right thigh. It boasts collapsible "arms" that extend out automatically when pulled from the holster, and when used, the Huntress has an uncanny aim; much like Batman does with his Bat-a-Rangs. The arrow "tips" have a variety of surfaces and uses, depending on the mission at hand and the target to get holed, and the Huntress isn't unknown for shedding blood to protect an innocent.
Gas Pellets: A variety used, these pellets can either be used to cover an entrance or escape, to disorient an opponent, or incapacitate an enemy.
Throwing Stars: Her own version of bat-a-rangs, the throwing stars are made of hardened steel like the bo-staff she uses. Again, Huntress has unerring aim when throwing these weapons, as she is an expert in this art.
Stylized Hand Cuffs: Modeled after the more famous bat-cuffs used by Batman, Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and others in Gotham.
Riot Straps: Self explanatory

History:
Bertinelli was born into one of Gotham's biggest Mafia families, which was headed at the time by her father, Guido Bertinelli. Living in what was known as East Town, Helena was raised in a world of riches and comfort; completely unaware of her family's business or the cruelties it condoned. At the age of six, that all changed when she was kidnapped by a person known only as Vince, who was following orders from a rival crime family. Upon being returned to her family, the once carefree and loving child had been transformed into a very serious, secretive, and mistrustful child; hiding her feelings deep within herself, while relying on no one else.
Seeing the change in his daughter and fearing for her safety, Guido decided to have her schooled in Sicily; and he made arrangements for her to live with cousins while under the protection of Salvatore Asaro, her personal bodyguard. For the next thirteen years, Salvatore never left her sight, even when she attended the various private schools and universities. When Helena was nineteen, she received a personal invitation to a wedding for one of her cousins, and not sensing the danger, she decided to attend.
Leaving her body guard in Sicily, Helena left college on spring break and returned to Gotham City where she planned to attend her cousin's wedding. While staying with her family, an assassin entered their home and murdered her entire family. Helena was only spared their misfortune by pretending to be dead while lying on the floor. When it was later learned she had escaped death, an order went out for her to be killed, but Salvatore was able to find her first and whisk her back to Sicily and safety, again.
There, under the guidance of her body guard, Helena learned the art of self-defense. She eventually learned the use of the crossbow, a weapon better suited for a stealthy creature of the night; and in time she mastered the use of virtually any kind of weapon, becoming a marksman with several, including the crossbow, and other hand-held weapons. When she later learned that she was descended from a Cosa Nostra, or Mafia family, she started hating them and everything they stood for; as that way of life had stolen her parents, her brother, and her life away from her.
Seeking revenge for the destruction of her family and wishing to find a way to end the ceaseless crime wars that seemed to be raging in Gotham City, Helena returned to Gotham; but she soon learned that even with all of her training in the martial arts and her skills with weaponry, she was still vulnerable. It was at that time that her life changed once again. While attending a Christmas Eve party with her family, they were visited by Batman, and it was in him that Helena discovered the means to extract her revenge. She could easily see the fear Batman put in their eyes. She knew that fear could be used by her as well, so she decided to become a vigilante like Batman, using her skills and knowledge to hunt down criminals in the night.
Moving to New York City, Helena quickly designed her own costume to mimic Batman and adopted the name of the Huntress. She soon discovered that it was her own father's lawyer that had put the hit on her family, with the intentions of gaining the power and riches the Bertinelli family controlled. The exact name of the assassin was never revealed, however. During her brief stay in New York, the Huntress teamed up with Batman to break up a city-wide gang war and to capture a drug cartel leader in the hopes that he would accept her as one of his own, but she quickly learned his approval was much harder to attain.
Helena returned to Gotham and soon teamed up with Robin (Tim Drake), while he took down a counterfeiting operation. During the operation, Robin learned of her secret identity, which surprised Helena to some extent, since she couldn't figure out how he had come to discover it. Not long after that, she was targeted for murder by Tony Bressi, since many of her crime fighting targets dealt with his operations. He later cancelled the contract on her life, which resulted in his own death, and the death of the hit man. Several months later, the Huntress was invited to join the Justice League of America. Sponsored by the Batman in the hopes that Huntress would conform to what he deemed as a better heroine, the Huntress began to train, while always under the close scrutiny of the Dark Knight, even though he refused to allow her to operate in Gotham City.
Seeking to be accepted into the inner circle of the Bat-family the Huntress joined forces with Nightwing to solve a cop killing. Her plan didn't work and all it did was to allow Nightwing to discover her secret identity, as he thumbed through a daily planner on her desk. A few weeks later, Gotham became known as a No Man's Land after the city had suffered a severe earthquake. She survived the quake, but was witness to the biggest crime spree Gotham had ever seen. She teamed up with Spoiler, a close friend of Robin's, and together they began the slow, tedious job of rounding up the escapees from Blackgate Prison, which had been damaged by the quake.
Returning to the streets of Gotham, the Huntress quickly discovered that her own costume instilled very little fear into the criminal events, so she decided to assume the identity of Batgirl; but when Batman returned to Gotham months later, he stripped her of the costume, the name Batgirl, and gave them both to a much younger girl which he thought was a better example of his kind of heroine. As a result, Helena became the Huntress. Though she was taken aback by his actions, Huntress was later able to redeem herself in Batman's eyes by saving over eighty children who had been orphaned by the quake; while being severely wounded and nearly killed by the Joker.
Recovering from her nearly fatal injuries, the Huntress quickly found she was a prime suspect in a murder case, as all the victims had been killed by daggers which she herself used as the Huntress. Trying to convince Batman of her innocence, she accidentally shot him with her crossbow, and she was forced to run, making her look even guiltier. Having escaped Batman and Nightwing and thinking she was safe, the Huntress relaxed, only to be knocked unconscious by a mysterious man known as The Question, who knew she was being framed for the murders.
Helena lived in Canada, as the guest of The Question, where she learned to find peace through the art of Tai Chi, and the teachings of a martial arts master, Richard Dragon. Several months later, Helena returned to Gotham and with the help of The Question, cleared her name. Not long after she had cleared her name, she was abducted by a super-secret law enforcement agency called Checkmate, who offered Huntress their queen position in exchange for information of the Dark Knight. They had tried to break her with the help of the Scarecrow's chemicals and the Mad Hatter's mind-control techniques; and they came very close, but the Huntress was able to escape, unaware she was carrying a hidden tracking device. Ultimately, she did lead agents of Checkmate to one of Batman's underground caves, but by that time, she had made a deal with the Batman, agreeing to work with Checkmate while protecting Batman's secret identity.
Recently, the Huntress saved Batman's life while he fought to unravel the mysteries in the HUSH escapade. She had come to his rescue only after the Oracle put out an all-points bulletin that Batman was down in Crime Alley; one of the worst parts of Gotham, and as she was the only vigilante around, the Oracle had to accept her help, and her attitude. Watching her fight for his life, the Dark Knight finally realized that she was very much like he had been when he had first started out as the Batman; so full of rage, yet undisciplined. Batman finally saw that the Huntress is better than she knows, better than anyone knows; yet wastes too much time proving it.
More recently, the Huntress has teamed up with the Outsiders, replacing Arsenal while he recuperated from injuries sustained while investigating a villain known as Brother Blood. Having served in his place, she is now a reserve member of The Outsiders. Formerly employed as a high school teacher until she was dismissed due to too many unauthorized extended absences, she has become more involved with other Gotham super-heroines, teaming up with the Black Canary and Oracle, as they both fought a criminal named Savant and a ruthless Senator. Gaining acceptance by Oracle, the Huntress had become a member of the Birds of Prey, where it was hoped she would learn to curb her aggressiveness, while becoming the vigilante Batman would accept.

Perched on an ancient-looking gargoyle, the Huntress surveyed the city far below her, looking for any sign of activity. She had planned to meet Batgirl but the younger vigilante was well over do, which worried the raven-haired adventuress. Checking her watch once more, the Huntress frowned before backing off the edge of the roof. Batgirl was never late, and this one fact told Huntress that Batgirl was probably in trouble. Deciding it was time to break radio silence to check on her friend, the Huntress touched her right temple and activated her com-unit.
“Batgirl? Batgirl! Can you copy? *sigh*”
Thinking to herself for a few moments, the Huntress pulled out a miniature GPS tracking system and quickly fed in Batgirl’s personal code. A minute later, she knew exactly where the young woman was….smack dab in the middle of Crime Alley, and that meant Batgirl was in serious trouble.
“Damnit, Batgirl, I said we’d go in together. This is why we plan an insertion. If I didn’t know better I’d say you were my twin.”
Placing the GPS unit back in it’s compartment, the Huntress pulled out her grappling gun and fired, shooting a very thin cord through the cold night air to the building across the street, but just as she started to move the night lit up like nothing she had ever seen before.
“What the F…?”
Dropping the gun, Huntress quickly reached for her binoculars to get a better view of the phenomenon, but with the massive spike of pure-white energy shooting literally miles into the sky, the Huntress didn’t really need them. Staring at the raw energy, the heroine soon found herself mesmerized by its beauty, and wondered what could have caused such a thing; but when it started to fade minutes later, the Huntress had to scramble to catch the last remaining particles of the beam.
Moving quickly, the amazed adventuress attached a portable analyzer to her binoculars and waited for the small computer to do its work. She had already forgotten all about Batgirl and the dangers she may have been facing as her mind told her this could be a very dangerous situation. Looking back at the fading remnants of light, the raven-haired woman almost didn’t feel the humming of the analyzer, telling her the analysis was complete, but what she read in the next few seconds only confused her more.
“Hummmm, traces of…, oh my God. But…, but that’s impossible. All I saw was white, but now you tell me there was a blue energy in the center of the beam? Computer.., cross reference this event with other possible sightings and transfer all data to the main unit.”
Running at full speed, the Huntress leapt off the building, before performing a perfect triple somersault into the night sky. Moments later, she landed on the top level of a catwalk, only to swing her body off the side to a flag pole several stories below. Using the pole to direct her downward movement, the Huntress spun her body around the pole three times before propelling herself toward a nearby awning..
Minutes later, the Huntress saw Jervis Tetch, aka The Mad Hatter. She was well aware of his special skills, and though he was exceedingly dangerous, she wanted to know more.
Moving to the door to check on the Mad Hatter, Huntress eased out into the hall, before edging toward the living room, where she saw the dangerous man working. Making sure Tetch wouldn't surprise her, Huntress slowly moved back into the bedroom to begin her investigation.
Moving quickly but quietly for the window, the Huntress slid her supple body into the darkness, pausing only long enough to leave her calling card, ensuring that the Hatter would know she had been there....
Looking slightly to her left as she heard the loud click of a gun's hammer locking into place, the Huntress slowly raised her hands until she was sure Jervis knew she was complying. Hearing the demand, she reached down with her right hand and unfastened the weapons belt before dropping it over the edge of the roof.
Seconds later, the all important utility belt dropped out of sight, leaving the Huntress only slightly less deadly than she normally was. Making sure her telescoping staff was at the ready in its holster, the adventuress slowly turned slightly to her left, to give the Hatter a much harder target to hit.
The Huntress could easily see his enjoyment at her situation, but she wondered why he didn't just shoot her. She knew were the roles reversed, he'd be very close to death by now, but maybe he had something else in mind.
Making it look like she was studying the rooftop area to make sure they were alone, the raven-haired heroine studied the barrel of the modified Glock, identifying it as a 9 mm pistol. Moments later, she took a deep breath to calm her nerves and let her eyes settle on Jervis Tetch.
"Ok, Jervis. Now that you have me, what do you plan to do?"
Having asked the question, the Huntress let a smirk of disgust settle on her face while she waited for his reply, even as she maintained a casual look on the deadly staff sitting snugly against her left thigh.
